The richest actor on this list isn’t rich because of acting at all.
Jami Gertz has spent decades working steadily in film and television, yet her estimated $12 billion fortune has almost nothing to do with any of it. It comes from her husband Tony Ressler’s stake in Ares Management and the Atlanta Hawks, and it is more than double what every other name combined on this list is worth from acting alone. Once you get past her and Oprah Winfrey, the list settles into more familiar territory: box-office legends, franchise paychecks, and more than a few actors, like Ryan Reynolds and Kate Hudson, whose real fortune was built by a business on the side rather than the camera.
Below are the 50 richest actors alive today, ranked by estimated net worth. The gold bar under each figure shows how their fortune stacks up against the person at number one.
